Kalai Vanakkam!!

Happy to welcome many new friends in SOD group… From last week.. We have Swami, Gayathiri,Bharathi,Ranjani, Ramesh and today Krithika( Singer and ardent music lover..Satyam Idol Participant....) .… Welcome !! and we will be happy to get your replies and many music related info from you all.

Last night, when I went to do my prayers, my grandma recalled an incident that took place when I was 3 yrs old. She had taken me to a temple and asked me to pray and say a Slogam thinking that my parents would have taught me something. I started singing.. and when I ended it … People were laughing and also shocked.. Grandma, out of embarrassment had taken me out of the temple very soon….

What did I sing there..?? That is TODAY’s SONG OF THE DAY… J

A very beautiful duet by our S.P.B and K.S.Chithra… Wonderful singers and almost all their duet songs are my favourite .. ( Ippo varaikkum.. “ Yaaro Yaarukkul ingu” from Chennai 600028)….
And particularly this song.. as I said earlier.. I have been singing right from the age of 3… and even after 20 years.. it sounds fresh and pleasant … Evergreen Song …

Our SOD is from VEDHAM PUDHIDHU…
· One of the best movies of K.Bharathiraja.
· The music director of the movie is “Devendran”… who has done few films in tamil like “Mannukkul vairam”,”Pudhiya thendral” and “Vedham puthithu”.
· Astounding performance by Sathyaraja and Saritha…
· Amala – usually in films we see her as a bubbly modern girl… In this movie..she will be like an Angel…
Soft ..Calm..Homely... Beautiful Amala… with Kannukku mai, Chinnatha Pottu, Kal mookkuthi, Kaadhula jimikki, thalaila poo.. Simple a cotton Pudavai..

· Kannan has worked with K. Balachander, Bharatiraja, SP. Muthuraman, Bharathan and V. M. C. Hanifa. ``Vedham Pudhidhu" won him the national award for story and screenplay. He was then called as ``Vedham Pudhidhu" Kannan.He wrote the dialogue for the tele-serials "Anni," "Sahana". He has also written and directed telefilms. He made his debut as director with "Amirdham."
· No one can forget the scene ..Where Sathyaraj carries the small boy and crosses the river.. and when he says his name as “Balu thevar”…

· I believe most of you must have seen atleast this scene.. and would have listened to this song also.. a super hit song..

The song… Which I sang in the temple and put by grandma ( orthodox and with no knowledge of films..) into embarrassment was..

· With typical bharathiraja style picturisation.. ( Amala giving the hand kerchief to raja.. and when his hand touches her hand.. her Kodam with water.. falls down.. and she runs… Wow.. J )
· And this songs is based on the ragam “shanmuga priya”.. in which infact Illayaraja has composed lot many songs more than the sangeetha mummoorthigal .. …and we have seen many songs and info about this raaga in the previous sods.. saying few of the songs again..
